Northumberland..... a taster

As I came home with around 2000 shots it's going to take a bit of time to blog properly.  But here are just a few tasters for our trip away.....

We made it to Seahouses for dinner then the next day did the Islands.  The weather was kind and we even landed on the outer Staple Island. A little light drizzle at the end of the day, and light not fantastic but we made it!  Plenty of puffins, and the puffcam was awe inspiring. Tern numbers seemed very down, but hopefully they're still arriving.  The next day we went to Alnwick.  The visit to the Barter Bookshop is a traditional stop, but we restricted ourselves to a couple of hours of browsing then moved on to the Alnwick Garden.  It was excellent, it's currently on my To-Do list for both Ma and Mol.  The final day we stopped at Warkworth Castle on the way home - damp but very impressive.  Another Percy stronghold.

So here are just a couple from the many...

First the Farnes.  And to start some proof for those who are worried that you'll be able to sit down.

And of course you mustn't forget the inspiring puffcam.

Then the next day to Alnwick.  No photos of the bookshop, far too busy to get the camera out.

The poison garden is full of lots of stuff that's illegal to grow - as well as some seriously nasties that aren't.  (It's a drug awareness project.)  I bought a great book on them.  Moira says she'll be a little concerned if I turn up for the next 2 visits alone.

And finally, over to another Percy centre at Warkworth.  It was here that Daddy got the news that young Harry had died on the bloody field at Shrewsbury.

They told us in the audio guide that Lady Percy would have spent hours sitting in this window seat in the Great Hall watching for her Lord's return.

She'd have needed a good strong footstool considering she'd have been wearing long skirts and trying to stay looking elegant.

Hmm.  Kitchen redesign......

And to finish, we go down to the Harbour after dinner every night before staggering back to our beds.
