Tiling!!

Started at last!

Martin spent Thursday working alone, doing the groundwork.  I have a dust sheet right up my hall again, and the garage is full of tile cutting equipment and toolboxes.  And by the end of Thursday all the trims were fitted round the doors and windows.  These are aluminium pieces that wil provide a neat edge, rather than just leaving them as bare tile/grout.  Some areas are flat pieces - L shaped trims, with a single edge round the door or archway.  Where 2 tiled surfaces meet we're fitting box shaped trims.

L shaped section round the Marley doors - very hard to make out I'm afraid

Box sections round the window & waste pipe box

L shape round archway, with lots of tiny saw cuts so it can be bent round to a perfect fit. Must have taken hours this one!
On Friday we started tiling.  Not a job that I can help loads with - sitting at the kitchen table and feeding Martin coffee & news about the latest patch of MH370 debris from my tabet is about the best of it.  And swapping likes on films - Martin had a little nose on Thursday through my DVD rack and discovered that we have many of the same films.  So this weekend he's lent me Skyfall (Daniel Craig James Bond - not seen any of them) and he's gone off gloating over One Of My Dinosaurs is Missing!!

And more importantly, the dresser wall is largely tiled; where the tiles aren't on they have been mostly cut, ready to put on come Monday morning.  We're going to try and finish the dresser wall Monday/Tuesday (including shelving etc) and then move on to the next area - that way I don't keep having to move everything round the kitchen in circles.  I've decided the tiles are a top choice, the colour looks excellent with the dark worktop, but also looks lovely against the wood.
