Floods!

As everyone up here knows, even if those down under don't, gales and heavy rain have been lashing the UK in the past few days, and the floods in this area are mighty impressive.  I can honestly say in the 10 years I've lived in Donington I've never seen the Trent round the A50 so high.  Nothing but a sheet of water.  No pix of that of course, as you can't shoot while driving, but I did park up in Shardlow and take some pictures, looking back towards the A50.

These first 2 shots are a comparison of 2007 (the first one) - taken because the Trent was impressively high! - and today.  Yes, from the same location, looking in the same direction.

 A few more for good measure.....

This house fronts onto the Trent.  Bet they can't sell it.  It does have a decent garden - you can see from the trees where the river stops.  Is supposed to stop.  I've seen it sandbagged before, with water up to the door sills, but today any sandbags are well under.

And this is looking across the fields to the A50.  I have seen a lot of this under water before, but it's a lot deeper today.  If you zoom in you can see the A50 bridge.  That isn't supposed to be across a canal - there's a road there!

This last one is taken from the same position as the first, but looking out at a different angle, again towards the A50.
