Preston Tower

Time for a bit of Northumberland blogging, well overdue I know.  This is Preston Tower.  Built at the very end of the 1300s, it was 1 of 78 Northumberland Pele Towers, and target of the border reivers.  It's about half the original size - it was kind of chopped in half vertically early 1600s, and a new rear wall eventually put in.  It's been turned into a mini museum, with several of the rooms as they would have been in the 1400s, and lots of info about things like the Battles of Flodden and Otterburn.  The tower was built by the Harbottle family, one of home served with Harry Hotspur.  Who of course took a large part in Otterburn.

I visited on the way home (it's only 6-7 miles outside Seahouses, so this was just as we left) with both Sarah and Mol.  The day was warmest with Mol, but had turned hazy by then, with the sun of the past few days disappearing.
