Delayed update

So.....  here we are at last with yesterday's update.

The weather started exactly as it had been promised, and we had rain on and off all day.

First thing, naturally, was that the 2 roof panels nearest the house had to come off to allow the lead flashing and associated pointing to be done - only way to do it was up a ladder from the inside.  They did it one at a time, and the carpet and chipboard beneath (providing valuable floor insulation, and to be retained with the laminate flooring for that very reason) didn't get as soaked as we feared they might.

While Martin was doing that, Tony went round finishing the trims, first outside then in - this is all the little shaped extrusions that clip in where window panels join, where the conservatory angles, where the panels meet the ceiling, over the metal strip that sits on the window panels and supports the roof beams.  And so on.

Then at last the final panel went back on and it was time to fit the roof crown and finial.  Which proved less than easy and eventually even needed my bedroom for access.....

Martin sorted the wiring in the corner where it had all been disconnected to remove the old ceiling fan and take the old conservatory down.  As with so much else in this house - for which the conservatory was built as part of the show home!! - this turned out to be more than a little dodgy, with a 13A fuse fitted where the wiring spec required a 5A fuse.  But hey, I've lived this far and it's right now.  We dug out the new fan so that they could work out about wiring and drilling any necessary mounting holes before fitting the internal roof spine.  And to our astonishment we found that the reason we hadn't spotted the cords you use to turn light or fan on/off was that there weren't any.  I have a remote control instead!!  Not sure which of us was more excited by this, me or Martin.

Tony then finished by cutting and fitting all the window boards (stuck on with silicon and foam adhesive, then with sealing beads all round), and after that they packed up and went home.  Leaving me with a bill for the basic build that actually came in less than quoted!  (Although only just, they did good!)

Martin will be back alone on Monday/Tuesday.  First we'll put up the ceiling fan/light, and then he's going to do the radiator.  I bought that from B&Q yesterday, a lovely vertical designer radiator.  Martin actually has an identical one in his own house, and he says it really does pump out the heat well.  So that will be very satisfactory.  And the final job will be the laminate flooring, also bought last week and stacked up in the hall.

Then the furniture will go back in, the new throws on the sofa, and it will be done!

And on Wednesday Polo will come to tea to see if she approves.
